The Somerville Environmental Commission and the Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage State Historic Sites are co-hosting a concert of historical music to conclude Somerville’s Earth Day weekend celebration.
Colonial Crossroads in the Old Dutch Garden: Music of Africa and Europe Meet

Admission is free and registration is not required. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy this outdoor springtime concert in the Old Dutch Garden, which is scheduled for restoration work later this year. Consider bringing a donation of supplies needed for the Food Bank Network of Somerset County.
About the concert
Carla Lynne Hall and Jim Keyes will present music of early America at the intersection of Africa and Europe, featuring Pinkster, the Dutch and African Dutch celebration of spring.
This program is part of a series made possible by the Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage Association and is sponsored by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
About the Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage
The State of New Jersey is revitalizing Wallace House, George Washington’s Middlebrook Headquarters and Old Dutch Parsonage, historic home of the founder and first president of Rutgers. This restoration work is leading up to Revolution NJ, New Jersey’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.
Exterior rehabilitation of the Wallace House is planned from July 2025 to April 2026. This construction project is funded by a Semiquincentennial Grant from the National Park Service’s Historic Preservation Fund and a portion of an allocation by the governor and legislature from the American Rescue Plan. A second Semiquincentennial Grant from the National Park Service is funding exterior rehabilitation of Old Dutch Parsonage.
The Somerville Environmental Commission is joining the Department of Environmental Protection and not-for-profit Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage Association in efforts to improve the historic landscape of Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage, including plans to revive the heritage garden at Old Dutch Parsonage.
