
Celebrate Earth Day with the Environmental Commission the weekend of April 25, 26 and 27! We have 3 opportunities to join in the festivities and make an impact with our community! Here are the highlights, with complete information about each event listed further below.

These events are rain or shine.
- Town Clean Up and Free Plant Seedling Giveaway
- April 26, 9 am start (NEW location: Division Street)
- This is a volunteer-driven initiative where we will pick up litter to help beautify our town and preserve our environment. Free plant seedlings, giveaways, bags and gloves will be provided.
- Earth Day Green Fair
- April 26, 11 am to 2 pm (Division St)
- Explore our educational booths, engage in kid-friendly activities, and discover how you can make a positive impact on the planet, right here in our community!
- Town Swap
- April 25, 26 and 27 (Somerville)
- Place unwanted items (including clothes, books, toys, household items) out on the curb for others to reuse. By participating, we can work together to promote sustainability in our community and give new life to unwanted belongings.
Event details
Town Clean Up and Free Plant Seedlings
9 am | Saturday, April 26 | Division Street
Meet us on Division Street to help beautify our town and preserve our environment. From our parks to our streets, we’ll work together to pick up litter and restore the natural beauty of our town.
- We will meet on Division Street at 9 am (NOT the high school parking lot)
- Dress accordingly – we suggest wearing sturdy shoes
- The Department of Public Works will provide garbage bags, work gloves and other giveaways
- We will have giveaways and there will be educational tables
- We will provide a list of suggested clean-up sites and disperse across town to pick up litter
- Everyone will receive free plant seedlings, courtesy of the Environmental Commission, for personal use or advice on where to plant them in public parks
Earth Day Green Fair
11 am to 2 pm | Saturday, April 26 | Division Street
Whether you’re interested in learning about beekeeping, solar energy, or browsing sustainable goods, this family-friendly event has something for everyone. You’ll connect with various local organizations that put sustainability and our environment first. Meet the passionate folks from the NJ Beekeepers Association, Revive Consign, Native Plant Society, and so many more. Explore their booths, engage in kid-friendly activities, and discover how you can make a positive impact on the planet, right here in our community!

4th Annual Town Swap
Friday, April 25 to Sunday, April 27 | Somerville
We invite residents to place unwanted items out on the curb for others to reuse. Mark your calendars to help minimize waste entering our landfills, and make Somerville cleaner one swap at a time!
- Place free items in front of your residence for others to take over the weekend
- Suggested items: clothes, books, toys, household items
- Make sure everything you put out is usable or functional
- The Town Swap is not for trash, but for unwanted items that need a new home
- Everyone is responsible for their own cleanup at the end of the weekend
