Snow removal and parking when it snows
When it snows, you need to remove your cars from the streets so we can plow, salt, and sand the roads. This keeps them safe for traffic and emergency vehicles.
When roads are covered in snow
- Move your car into your driveway so it is not on the road
- If you do not have a driveway, move your car to one of the borough parking lots
- Parking is free in all borough parking lots during a snowstorm
Clear your sidewalks and fire hydrants
All property owners (residential and commercial) have 12 daylight hours to clear snow from sidewalks once the precipitation has ended. We encourage you to help the Fire Department by also removing snow and ice around the fire hydrants near your home.
Fines and towing
It's illegal for any vehicle to be parked on any borough road or highway when the ground is snow covered. This includes snow, sleet, hail, ice or freezing rain.
Somerville Police may ticket or tow your vehicle if it's on a street or highway when the ground is snow covered.
This policy remains in effect until the roads are sufficiently cleared, as determined by the Public Works Manager.
