All 30 application appointments are now confirmed and we have stopped accepting applications for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Assistance Payments Program. We will start accepting applications again when the current waiting list is reduced and there is a reasonable expectation that Section 8 housing units may be made available.
About the waiting list
On Monday, October 14, we will begin taking applications for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program waiting list. We will place 30 families on the waiting list and then stop taking applications. To be placed on the waiting list, you must have
- A scheduled appointment
- An application that is approved and accepted
- Proof that you live or work in Somerville
How to schedule an appointment
You must schedule an appointment to complete an application.
- Call 908-704-6971
- Appointments will be held in the Housing Office (2nd floor) at Borough Hall (25 West End Avenue)
- Only 1 application can be accepted per person present
- Duplicate applications or applications with false information will be disqualified
- Applicant must be at least 18 years of age or an emancipated minor
About local preference
We will only consider households with local preference at the time of the application. This means the applicant must live or work in the Borough of Somerville. Proof of this residency preference will be required at the time of the application and prior to acceptance on our waiting list.
Documents that can prove residency include:
- Driver’s license
- Lease
- Employment papers
- Paystubs
Income requirements
You are potentially eligible for Section 8 assistance if your household income is at or below the following by household size:
