December 20: NJ American Water is aware of taste and odor issues and will continue flushing the water system. We are anticipating 1 to 2 inches of snow tonight into Saturday morning. Black ice is possible. Residents have 12 daylight hours to clear snow from sidewalks once the precipitation has ended.

Schedule a construction permit inspection

We inspect your construction project as work progresses to make sure everything is safe and meets codes and regulations.

The owner, or other responsible person in charge of work, must notify us when work is ready for an inspection.

Need to know

  • You need to schedule at least 24 hours in advance.
  • The cost of inspections are included in your permit fees. You do not need to pay again for inspections.
  • If you don’t get inspections, your permit could be revoked and you may need to stop your project.

Before you start

When you’re scheduling, you will need to provide:

  • Permit number
  • Project address, including the block or lot of the property
  • Type of inspection you need

You cannot make an inspection request by leaving a voicemail. Leave a call back number and we will return your call to schedule the inspection.

Steps

  1. Request a building inspection by calling (908) 725-2300, ext. 1965
  2. Provide your permit number, project address, and the type of inspection you need
  3. Coordinate a day and time for your inspection.

What's next

We will perform the inspection within 3 business days of your request.

Plan for a 1 hour window before and after your estimated time, in case the inspector arrives early or is running late. If your inspector doesn't show up the day of your inspection, call us.

The inspector will check the work that’s been done against the approved plans. If the work is done correctly, they will approve the inspection. If the work has not been done correctly, we will issue a correction notice. This will tell you what needs to be fixed or changed.

Remember that you may need other inspections, too. Depending on your project, you may need inspections from other agencies, such as the Fire or County Health department. Contact them directly to schedule inspections and pay any required fees.
