Pet Licenses
The owners of all dogs (7 months or older) must apply annually for a dog license. Somerville cat owners are also required to apply annually for a cat license. Pet licenses are processed by the Vital Statistics Department.
New Licenses
Rabies Certification
- Cats: Require a rabies certificate valid at the time of licensing
- Dogs: Require a rabies certificate valid through October 31 of the licensing year
Fees - Cats
- $11 for neutered cats
- $14 for non-neutered cats
- Cat licenses must be renewed in June. After June 30, there is a $3 late fee in July and an additional $1 for each additional month
Fees - Dogs
- $12 for neutered dogs
- $15 for non-neutered dogs
- Dog licenses must be renewed in January. After January 31, there is a $3 late fee in February and an additional $1 for each additional month

- Check/Money Order: Made payable to “Borough of Somerville”
- Exact cash: If paying in person at Borough Hall
