The Downtown Somerville Alliance has announced a new banner program designed to pay tribute to all service men and women from Somerville and Branchburg who have served in any branch of the military. Each banner will honor a specific individual and include their name, picture, branch of service, and era of service.
“We are proud that we are able to continue to give families a venue to recognize loved ones who have bravely risked their lives for us,” said Natalie Pineiro, Executive Director of the Downtown Somerville Alliance.
The Downtown Somerville Alliance will be facilitating the Hometown Heroes Banner program, a biennial program that entails creating a series of commemorative vinyl banners to be displayed on the decorative light poles on Main St. in downtown Somerville
The banners will be on display during the month of November, in honor of Veteran’s Day, for two consecutive years. The banners will be made of high-quality, durable vinyl designed to withstand the elements.
To dedicate a banner to a loved one, complete the application at https://bit.ly/DSAHometownHeroes. There is a $200 tax-deductible fee for each banner that will guarantee placement for the entire month of November in 2022 and 2023, in honor of Veteran’s Day. The fee is payable via check or credit card, or in person via cash or check at the DSA office, located at 50 Division St. Ste 501, Somerville, NJ 08876. Financial consideration will be given to qualifying veteran’s families who cannot afford the cost of the banner.
Although placement of the banners is guaranteed for two years, participants will be given the ability to opt out of the program after the first year. The banner fee is nonrefundable.
