Somerville cat owners MUST get a new or renewed cat license during the month of June. License applications and payment can be obtained in-person at the Vital Statistics window, submitted through the “TAX” slot on the Borough Hall front porch, 25 West End Avenue, or through the mail.
A pet license application can be found at www.somervillenj.org (click on “Departments” tab, click on “Clerk/Administrator” and scroll to the bottom of the page. Click on “Clerk’s Office Forms”, choose “License, Permit, OPRA Request” and click on Pet License Application). 2021 Cat License On-Line Renewals
The license fee is $11.00 for neutered cats or $14.00 for non-neutered cats. A NEW LICENSE will only be issued with proof of rabies vaccination and neuter (if applicable).
RENEWAL of an existing license will ONLY require proof of new rabies vaccination if the rabies vaccination had expired during the previous license year. If you are renewing your cat’s license, you do NOT need to complete an application – your pet’s information is already in the licensing program.
If you pay by check or money order, please make payable to “Borough of Somerville”.
You can pay on-line by going to the Somerville website’s home page (www.somervillenj.org) and click the PET LICENSE RENEWALS link. The link will be available starting June 1, 2021. Your license and tag will be mailed to your home. If necessary, proof of neutering and/or new rabies certificate can be emailed to Marcie Tyson prior to the on-line payment. Marcie’s email is mtyson@somervillenj.org.
If you renew a cat license after June 30 the late fees are $3.00 in July AND an additional $1.00 for each month thereafter. Due to COVID, free rabies vaccination clinics may be postponed or cancelled. However, you may renew your cat’s license as long as he/she still has a valid rabies certificate at the time of the renewal.
For more information about pet licenses, contact Marcie Tyson at (908) 725-2300 ext. 1980 or mtyson@somervillenj.org.
