Mayor Dennis Sullivan is pleased to announce that Somerville resident and graduating SHS senior Bridget Lacerda has been named one of only 15 state finalists in the annual Louis Bay 2Nd Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship Competition, sponsored by the New Jersey State League of Municipalities through the offices of local mayors.

Over 50 towns submitted entries this year as the event celebrates its 29th anniversary. Ms. Lacerda was also a state finalist as a junior in the 2022 competition.

“I congratulate Bridget on repeating her performance from last year. Despite a rigorous schedule in the classroom, on the athletic field, in extracurricular activities, and in community involvement, she found the time to create an essay that obviously impressed the judges in Trenton. I know that the entire Somerville community is proud of her accomplishment and wishes Bridget well as she moves on to start her college career, the mayor said.

Bridget will present her winning essay at the June 19 Borough Council meeting where she will lead the Pledge of Allegiance and receive a Certificate of Participation from NJLM and Mayor Sullivan.
