How to participate
Sign up by Wednesday, April 2 for these volunteer opportunities.
Jay Scott Community Garden – clean-up and seasonal prep
170 East Main Street (between Fire Engine No. 1 and the pickleball courts)
Help us get the community garden ready for another season of growing!
Tasks include:
- Adding additional wood chip mulch for pathways
- Topping off raised beds with fresh soil
- Organizing the shed
- Potential weeding around pathways
Carol Pager Park Rain Garden – maintenance and restoration
100 Green Street, Somerville
The rain gardens at Carol Pager Park were built in 2014 and are in serious need of maintenance to function effectively. Rain gardens are specially designed landscape features that collect and filter stormwater runoff, helping to reduce flooding, improve water quality, and support native plant and pollinator populations. These are an asset for our community, and we need your help to get them ready for the season!
During this volunteer session, we’ll focus on restoring the left-most rain garden by:
- Cutting back last year’s plant growth
- Removing invasive turf grass from the garden beds
- Moving large river stones at the inlet to clear out sediment buildup
- Completing other manual labor tasks as needed

To help us plan accordingly, please fill out the volunteer form by April 2. Whether you can give an hour or two, your efforts will make a big difference in preparing these spaces for the season ahead. We hope to see you there!
