December 20: NJ American Water is aware of taste and odor issues and will continue flushing the water system. We are anticipating 1 to 2 inches of snow tonight into Saturday morning. Black ice is possible. Residents have 12 daylight hours to clear snow from sidewalks once the precipitation has ended.

Free parking due to flood watch

Posted on March 6, 2024

Borough of Somerville Flood Watch. March 6 to March 7.

Please note there is a flood watch in effect in our area, starting on Wednesday, March 6. Steady rain on Wednesday, on already saturated ground, may lead to flooding overnight into Thursday. We’re also expecting another round of rain late Saturday into early Sunday.

Prepare for possible flooding

  • We suggest relocating all vehicles in low-lying areas to higher ground before Wednesday night
  • Parking is now free in all municipal lots from Wednesday until Sunday

Turn Around Don’t Drown

Here are some safety tips from the National Weather Service:

  • Never drive through flooded roadways. You do not know the condition of the road under the water.
  • Never drive around the barriers blocking a flooded road.
  • Be extra careful at night when it’s harder to recognize flood dangers.
  • 6 inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars, causing loss of control and stalling.
  • 12 inches of rushing water will carry away most cars.
  • 2 feet of rushing water can carry away SUVs and trucks.
