Celebrate Earth Day with the Environmental Commission the weekend of April 19, 20 and 21, rain or shine! We have 3 opportunities to join in the festivities and make an impact with our community.
Here are the highlights, with more information listed further below about each event.
Town Clean Up & Free Tree Seedling Giveaway
- When and where: April 20, 9 am in the High School parking lot
- This is a volunteer-driven initiative where we will pick up litter to help beautify our town and preserve our environment.
- Free tree seedlings for borough residents, free giveaways, and bags and gloves will be provided.
Earth Day Green Fair
- When and Where: April 20, 11 am to 2 pm on Division St
- Explore our educational booths, engage in kid-friendly activities, and discover how you can make a positive impact on the planet, right here in our community!

Town Swap
- When and where: Participate all weekend throughout town
- Residents are invited to participate by placing unwanted items (including things like clothes, books, toys, household items) out on the curb for others to reuse.
- By participating, we can work together to promote sustainability in our community and give new life to unwanted belongings.
Town Clean Up and Tree Giveaway
9 am | Saturday, April 20 | Somerville High School parking lot
Join us at the Somerville High School parking lot to help beautify our town and preserve our environment. From our parks to our streets, we’ll work together to pick up litter and restore the natural beauty of our town.
Details
- We will meet at the Somerville High School parking lot at 9 am
- Dress accordingly – we suggest wearing sturdy shoes
- DPW will provide garbage bags, work gloves and other giveaways
- Solar Me will also provide free giveaways and there will be educational tables
- We will provide a list of suggested clean-up sites and disperse across town to pick up litter
- Everyone will receive free tree seedlings for personal use or advice on which parks can use them too
Earth Day Green Fair
11 am to 2 pm | Saturday, April 20 | Division Street
Whether you’re interested in learning about beekeeping, solar energy, or browsing sustainable goods, this family-friendly event has something for everyone.
Connect with local organizations that put sustainability and our environment first. Meet the passionate folks from the NJ Beekeepers Association, Revive Consign, Electric Vehicle Association, and many more. Explore their booths, engage in kid-friendly activities, and discover how you can make a positive impact on the planet, right here in our community. You can also recycle adult bicycles at the bike drive!

3rd Annual Town Swap
Friday, April 19 to Sunday, April 21 | Somerville
We invite residents to place unwanted items out on the curb for others to reuse. Mark your calendars to help minimize waste entering our landfills, and make Somerville cleaner one swap at a time!

- Place free items in front of your residence for others to take over the weekend
- Suggested items: clothes, books, toys, household items
- Make sure everything you put out is usable or functional
- The Town Swap is not for trash, but for unwanted items that need a new home
- Everyone is responsible for their own cleanup at the end of the weekend
