December 20: NJ American Water is aware of taste and odor issues and will continue flushing the water system. We are anticipating 1 to 2 inches of snow tonight into Saturday morning. Black ice is possible. Residents have 12 daylight hours to clear snow from sidewalks once the precipitation has ended.

Apply to obstruct or construct a sidewalk

If you need to block or build a new sidewalk, you need a sidewalk obstruction permit.

Need to know

  • Application cost is $10.
  • If the sidewalk is within the Special Improvement District, you need to use brick pavers.
  • If the sidewalk is within the Bluestone Protection Area, you need to replace it with bluestone, not concrete.

Before you start

If your project involves a new or expanded driveway, you need a zoning permit first. You'll need to attach a copy of your approved zoning permit to your application.

Steps

  1. Download and complete the application.
  2. Submit the application.
  3. Pay the application fee with cash or by check (preferred).

What's next

After you submit your application and payment, we will contact you.

You need to notify utility companies that may be affected by work being done.

If you think any trees might get damaged, contact us before you start any of the work so we can conduct an evaluation. There are consequences for tree damage within the Borough right of way.

Call (908) 704-2490 at least 24 hours in advance before you order concrete or lay stone to allow us to perform an inspection.
